AS (517) 353-1680 (313) 377-2075 The COUNCIL FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SOUTH ASIAN LITERATURE was established in 1981 in order to assist in the responsibilities of maintaining and publishing the JOURNAL OF SOUTH ASIAN LITERATURE. JSAL, established in 1963, is dedicated to the publication and dissemination of South Asian literatures—classical, medieval, and modern—through the medium of English translation. To date a total of 15 volumes of the Journal have appeared; these contain over 2,000 individual translations of poetry, short stories, plays, and novellas, as well as interviews, critical essays, review articles, book reviews, bibliographical studies and other news and information connected with the serious study of South Asian literature. Membership in CASAL is available on an institutional as we11 as individual basis. INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP in CASAL is $200 per year. Membership in this category includes a one-year subscription to JSAL for the institution's library. The name of the institution will be listed in the Journal in the SPONSOR category.
