Under the scholarly patronage ofAnnemane Schimmel (Bonn Harvard) this project aims at establishing a Reference Library and at publishing a complete Descriptive Bibliography of Iqbal.

a In order to promote research about Muhammad Iqbal and the cultural and religious environment in which he flourished and produced his visionary ooetrv the prnj^rt aims at b^^g'^g together in one research library

- all the publications of Iqbal, and their translations in European languages,

- all the books and articles about Iqbal in European languages,

- selective material for allied areas: post-1857 religious and political developments in the subcontinent, Islamic thought in Pakistan, Urdu literature, Indo-Persian literature. /

If the books or articles are no longer available, the library will acquire photocopies In this way a complete and unique research library about Iqbal will be made available in Europe

b So mucn has now been published about Iqbal that a comprehensive and descriptive bibliography is urgently needed This publication is a necessary research-tool to make studies about Iqbal possible Each book and article will be studied in detail and will be briefly evaluated A detailed word-index will facilitate cross-references to specific themes in the field of Iqbal studies The results of this work w^ll be published in a book, and every two years an updated supplement w^ll be brought out.
