The museum is one of the most frequented ones in the Republic. Thousands of visitors both from the country and abroad, have made enthusiastic comments about this majestic building But no one, perhaps, has been so apt in his assessment as the journalist, R Podpolnyi:
It is difficult to get used to the idea that one is inside that very building around which one had just a while earlier, walked, awed by its monumentality.
The solidity of the outside is replaced by open space inside and grandeur turns to tranquility.
From outside it is monolithic—its solemnity is linked to an intentional weightiness, heaviness, massiveness, a fortress-like hardness and a feeling in fact, of unapproachability.
Inside—lightheartedness....
If architecture, as is well known, is considered frozen music, then this building from the outside is Bach's chorale whereas from the inside—at times Mozart, at times folk music.
On the outside—walls, on the inside—light and air, air and light
