During architectural investigations it was discovered that the residential building N 8 on Antokolsky Street had a fair amount of Gothic architectural details. This helped in a complete restoration of the interiors and the facade of this single storied Gothic building of the sixteenth century. From historical sources it was leamt that there were two taverns in this building's basement A cafe Lokis was opened after restoration in the basement and ground floor.. .

The restoration work on the blocks of the old city is being carried out by a consortium. A number of organizations are involved in it The research work and documentation of suggestions for the project is carried out by the Institute of Conservation of Monuments under the Ministry of Culture of the Lithuanian SSR. Further work on the projects (excluding monuments of architecture) is being carried out by the Institute of Communal Utilities Planning The construction work comes under the Vilnyus Maintenance and Building Trust along with the Vilnyus Restoration Workshop Trust

An overall reconstruction of the old city cannot limit itself to that territory alone. The project planner has to also keep in mind the surrounding environment Further, it is necessary to keep a meticulous record of the entire work— from beginning to end. This is of prime importance for the protection of cultural monuments. One must keep a detailed account of the coordinated work on the reconstruction of the blocks. Alongside this scientific and production reports should be made from time to time.

The experience of conducting coordinated work for the reconstruction of Vilnyus' historical blocks has proved that this is the only way of protecting the town planning structure and adapting it to modem needs.
