ALOK RAI teaches English Literature at the Allahabad University. Besides his dissertation on Orwell, he has written a number of articles bearing on the intersection of literature, history and sociology.

SUDHIR CHANDRA a social historian, is a Fellow at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. Author of Dependence and Disillusionment: Emergence of National Consciousness in Later 19th-century India 1975), he has edited Social Transformation and Creative Imagination (1^84).

BHISHAM SAHANI an eminent Hindi writer, was honoured by the Sahitya Aka-demi for his novel Tamas.

R.B. PATANKAR teaches English Literature and Aesthetics at the University of Bombay. A winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award for his contributions to Marathi literature, Prof. Patankar has written extensively on aesthetics and literary criticism. His publications include Saundarya Mimasa, Kant, Aesthetics ofCroce and others

DIPANKAR GUPTA a sociologist, teaches at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has recently published a book on the Shiv Sena.

S.V. PRADHAN teaches at the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages in Hyderabad. His contributions on English literature have been published in many journals.

Anil Bhatti teaches German at the Centre of German Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
