3 Going tfuough some correspondence between a muttadar and the Vizagapatanam District Collector (during 1928), I was struck with the fact that how strong was the derogatory meaning that the teTTnjitun carried with it. In 1928, the collector of Vizagapatanam issued a letter to the muttadar oi Pedavalsa, Kakipati. Sarabhanna Padal, instructing him t6 accept the appointment of one Sagina Lakshama Padel, son ofRamanna Padal, as the munsiffofjerrila village. The muttadar of Pedavalsa, Kakipati Sarabhanna Padal, instructing him to accept the ter to the collector, in which he reminds the colonial government the so-called criminal familv background of the candidate. He narrates how the candidate's family members, Sagina Boodeyya Padal, Lakshnri Padal, Lakshmi Padal, Seernu Padal and others were punished for involving in villages quarrels and participating in 1922-24 fituri meant in this case to remined the Government of the so-called criminal background of the candidate.
