Therefore unity,to Kurian, is a search/or allies; there is no hint at all about this unity being used to destroy the ideological roots of Christianity. Thus the unity of which Lenin speaks of is different from the unity which Kurian has in view, And when quotations from Lenin are used to justify his line of reasoning he seems to commit a distortion of Marxism-Leninism.
Finally, when Kurian puts ^(i) knowledge of the world, the historical processes, knowledge of society and social relationships and their laws as historical materialism discovered them, and (ii) social and political action to translate this knowledge into practice which enriches and furthers the knowledge" as two imperative conditions if Christians want to be revolutionaries19 he is indulging not only in wishful thinking, but also in fallacious reasoning. The very acceptance of these two conditions by a Christian would negate his or her existence (in the strict philosophical sense) ^s ^Chri» stian, since theology and the Bible which accept God, Divine Providence and so forth are miles apart from historical materialism which sees history as a dialectical process caused by the contradiction between the modes of pro* duction and relations of production. One wonders if Kurian is trying to establish that one can be both a Marxist and a Christian at the same time, although he says otherwise when reiterating the philosophical positions at the beginning of the article. Therefore the only explanation for the inconsistencies and confusions lies in his attempts to revise and distort Marxism-Leninism without caring to apply it to the objective social reality in India.
