" We were told this has been the home of one of the wealthiest Chinese merchants in Rangoon. It certainly was owned by someone with money. It had been used by the Japanese as a radio station. Some equipment remained inside. With the exception of some militarily vandalism on the walls, the structure seemed to be in good condition. Earth walls outside were to offer a measure of protection from attack. ""Foxholes"" and gun emplacements are visible on the front lawn in r23. Shows some of the interior panels and wall art. The folding screen was a room divider and was done in black, gold and red with pearl or ivory inlay work. It was fantastically beautiful and relatively undamaged. R-25 looks from the building's central tower toward the grounds' gate. Crops of some kind appear to have been planted on what had been lawns. |
