The Library aims to have a comprehensive collection of important books as well as rare manuscripts on Tibet and the Himalayas. Of particular interest is the collection of books on the Dunhuang Documents, the earliest written sources on Tibetan society and history. These documents were discovered in the early part of the 20th century at various caves around the Silk Route in Central Asia.Another important collection will be the publications in various languages of the Buddhist Kagyur and the commentaries of great scholars. The Bon Kagyur and Tengyur are also in this collection.The Library has the latest computer technology for the reproduction, storage and retrieval of rare and fragile manuscripts, films and photos. Internet facilities can be provided.

Songtsen Library; Center for Tibetan and Himalayan studies Collects, Catalogues, Preserves and disseminates on wide range of disciplines on Tibet and the Himalayas.
The Library is fully computerized with latest technology.The primary collection includes the reproductions of Tibetan texts and Art from Central Asia discovered by archeologists in the early 20th century particularly on the famed silk route, which run from China to erstwhile Persia.

5. Flora and Faunad) Special Collection:Personal Collections of Lama Anagarika Govinda. He was a German scholar and was one of the foremost westerners who studied Buddhism in Tibet. He spent many years in retreat in the Himalayan region of Almora. On returning to his native country, he left some of his personal collection of books, periodicals and journals to W. Y. Evans-Wentz who left the collection for Songtsen Library.
