The spinning of cotton thread and silk and cotton-weaving are the
chief industries. There may also be mentioned: embroidery o
small scale I the manufacture of ornaments in gold, silver, and ivory,
and of bete[nut cutters; knives, brass and copper utensils, toys, and
pottery. The ,,be, of ginning factories is one being connected
with a eving-mill. The chief centres of trade am Piitan,tnKadi,
Mehsans,Visnagar, Vadnagar, and Sidhpur.the first rbeing the m

of the RajputIna-MalwA Railway,hich passes from south to north,
State lines diverge from Mehsana to Kheralu, Purse, and Vimmgam,

The land revenue rose from 311 lakhs in 1881 to 358 Iakhs in
189,, and was 35'5 lakhs in rgot ; but in 1904-5, while the demand
s, lakhs, the collections amounted to only 112 lakhs. A settle
men t for fifteen year made between 1891 and 190., and parts
