TAPATI GUHA THAKURTA is a Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. She is the author of The Making of a New 'Indian' Art: Artists, Aesthetics and Nationalism in Bengal (Cambridge University Press, 1992).

R. NANDAKUMAR has been a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. He is an art historian and has been engaged in the critical study and organization of contemporary arts in Kerala.

KAJRI JAIN has worked as a designer in Delhi and Sydney, Australia. She is currently working towards her doctoral dissertation at the University of Sydney, focussing on visual mass culture in India.

KAVITA SINGH is completing her doctoral work at Punjab University, Chandigarh, on the narrative paintings used in the picture showman tradition. Her ongoing work includes a comparative study of the Rajasthani phad and Bengali pata paintings.

GEETA KAPUR is an art critic and presently an ICHR Fellow at the Centre for Contemporary Studies, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi. Her most recent writings are being compiled in a volume titled When Was Modernism: Essays on Contemporary Cultural Practice in India.

K.B. GOEL has been an art critic with Thought, Link, Patriot and The Economic Times. He is presently writing a monograph on the artist J. Swaminathan.

GULAMMOHAMMED SHEIKH is an artist whose work has been shown in Indian and international exhibitions. He was until recently Professor of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University, Baroda. Among his many art historical writings the most recent is an edited volume on art in Baroda. He is also a well known poet in Gujarati.

VIVAN SUNDARAM is an artist who has exhibited widely. He has recently been artist-in-residence in international projects. Organizationally he is involved with the Kasauli Arts Centre and SAHMAT, Delhi. He is presently editing the letters of Amrita Sher-Gil for publication.

MADAN GOPAL SINGH teaches English urDelhi University. He is engaged in the study of cinema and writes and lectures regularly on the subject. He has also worked with noted filmmakers as musician and scriptwriter.
