[अस्-शतिप्] 1 Being, existent, present; as in अस्तिक्षीरा, ˚कायः -2 Often used at the commencement of a tale or narrative in the sense of 'so it is', 'there', or merely as an expletive; अस्ति सिंहः प्रतिवसति स्म Pt.4; अस्त्यत्र नगरे...त्रयः पुरुषा देवस्य श्रियं न सहन्ते Mu. 1,5; अस्ति पूर्वमहं व्योमचारी विद्याधरोऽभवम् Ks.22.56,1. 27; अस्ति तत्रभवान् वृषलं याजयिष्यति P.III.3.146 is it that &c. -स्तिः f. N. of a sister of Prāpti, daughter of Jarāsandha and wife of Kaṁsa. -Comp. -कायः [अस्ति कायः स्वरूपं यस्य] a category or predicament (with the Jainas); these categories are 5; -जीव˚, पुद्गल˚, धर्म˚ अधर्म˚, and आकाश˚. -क्षीर a.
