தேய் , II. v. i. wear away, be rubbed away, உரை II; 2. decrease, waste away, wane, குறை; 3. lapse, கழி; 4. be effaced or obliterated by rubbing, மாய் II; 5. be emaciated or stunted, as a child; be reduced as wealth, splendour etc. தேய்கடை, adj. worn out, stunted in growth. தேய்கடைப்பணம், a fanam worn by use. தேய்க்கடைப்பிள்ளை, a stunted child. தேய்ந்தபல்லன், (fem. தேய்ந்தபல்லி) a person whose teeth are worn out. தேய்பிறை, the waning moon (opp. to வளர்பிறை, the waxing moon.) தேய்வு, v. n. wearing away, diminution; 2. emaciation; 3. erasure.

தேய் , VI. v. t. rub உரை VI; 2. rub off, cleanse by rubbing, erase, துடை; 3. waste by rubbing, destroy, அழி; 4. rub between the hands or fingers, நிமிண்டு; 5. give grudgingly or scantily. தேய்த்துக்குளிக்க, to rub oneself in bathing. தேய்த்துக்கொள்ள, to rub oneself with oil. தேய்ப்பு, v. n. rubbing away, polishing by rubbing, killing, destruction. தேய்ப்புணி, தேய்ப்பூணி, a very sparing saving person. தேய்ப்பு மேய்ப்பு, v. n.rubbing and feeding applied to domestic animals.
